Pilates and Pregnancy

Get pilates and pregnancy instruction right in the heart of Portland’s Pearl District. Pilates is perfectly suited for preparing women for labor and a speedy recovery.  It is a no-impact routine that places special emphasis on improving stability and mobility in the lumbopelvic and shoulder girdles—important factors during pregnancy and beyond.

Pregnancy alters postural alignment, putting stress on the low back, pelvis, hips, and feet. Pilates can strengthen these areas and alleviate muscle soreness and compression of the spine. Pilates exercises also enhance coordination and balance without compromising safety, which is helpful as a woman’s center of gravity shifts during pregnancy.

Private lessons are the best way to ensure exercises are properly modified and adapted as pregnancy progresses. We respect the guidelines of the health care professional and do our best to create a safe and stress free environment in which to workout.
